ABOUT US
Radon is odourless and invisible.
The only way to find out the levels of Radon in your property is through testing over 3 months.
Radon testing is used to identify Radon levels in your property. The test can be carried out by trained and experienced Radon inspectors from The Radon Consultants or alternatively you can also carry out the test using a Radon detector or test kit purchased from our shop.
Homeowners need one Radon test kit containing a pair of detectors. The test kit comes with step-by-step instructions to help you set it up.
Generally, you need to place one detector in your bedroom and another in your living room. If your home has a basement and more rooms, you may need extra detectors.
The Passive Radon Detector is the most common type of Radon detector in the UK. Property owners usually receive two detectors for a minimum of 10 days. One is for the living area while the other is for the bedroom.
The detectors come in a small domed case with a special lens. It works by allowing air in your home to pass through the detectors. As the air passes through, radioactive Radon particles make microscopic etches on the lens.
For accurate results, our experts recommend placing the detectors within the main living and sleeping areas of your home. Testing takes up to 3 months. This is to allow for fluctuations in Radon levels and obtain an annual average.
After the test period, detectors will be sent for analysis, where experts calculate the average Becquerel level.
We use a UKHSA approved lab who will send the results back within 2 weeks. Depending on the identified levels of Radon, our experts will advise you about the best mitigation method.
The 10-day Radon detectors are commonly used for snap radon tests. For example, you’re buying a home, and the seller is serious about selling the property.
A 90-day Radon test kit provides more accurate and reliable results. The Radon test kit contains two passive detectors.
Ten-day radon detectors help to reveal radon levels in the property. A 10-day radon detector kit contains two detectors - one for the main living area and another for the bedroom.
After 10 days, send the detectors to the laboratory for analysis. This test kit should provide accurate results. However, radon levels fluctuate constantly. We recommend carrying out a long-term test using the 90-day radon test kit.
Each detector should be placed on the property for 12 weeks.
After the period elapses, send the passive detectors to an independent laboratory for analysis.
You should receive results within 6 weeks as well as recommendations to reduce radon levels.
