Radon in the Home
Radon is found in varying quantities in all buildings, all over the country. However, some locations are at a greater risk due to underlying geology. Public Health England’s Radon Map can be used to check whether a property sits in an area suspected of having high levels of Radon Gas.
The map gives an indication of how likely it is to find Radon gas in a particular area; however, Radon testing will need to be carried out to determine whether a particular house is affected.
Radon in the Workplace
The same can be said for Radon in the workplace. Using the Radon map should be your first port of call if you are concerned that your place of work may be at risk from Radon.
A Radon risk assessment will need to be carried out if the building is in a Radon affected area, as identified by the map. An assessment should also be carried out if the building has a basement or other partly below-ground area where 1 or more hours of work are carried out each week, regardless of location.

Ten-day radon detectors help to reveal radon levels in the property. A 10-day radon detector kit contains two detectors - one for the main living area and another for the bedroom.
After 10 days, send the detectors to the laboratory for analysis. This test kit should provide accurate results. However, radon levels fluctuate constantly. We recommend carrying out a long-term test using the 90-day radon test kit.

Each detector should be placed on the property for 12 weeks.
After the period elapses, send the passive detectors to an independent laboratory for analysis.
You should receive results within 6 weeks as well as recommendations to reduce radon levels.
